UK's Ofcom to offer new opportunities for "small-scale" DAB multiplexes

In February 2026, Ofcom published its Licensing Priorities for Broadcast Radio Consultation, setting out the proposed strategic approach to broadcast radio licensing in the UK. Having considered the stakeholder responses, the regulator says that it will focus on licence priorities in the short-to-medium term to include: "a) new opportunities for SSDAB multiplexes in unserved areas; b) applications from existing SSDAB multiplex licensees to improve or extend the coverage of their multiplex; c) a more flexible approach, where appropriate, in our application of the ‘40% ceiling’ rule regarding SSDAB."
